「The Tree of FCIS」
The FCIS Tree connects various fields of study,
spreads its branches and leaves, bears the fruit of new values
and disseminates those values to the world
This is the beginning of the “age of humankind.”
In order to find solutions to the uncertain challenges that lie ahead, such as environmental destruction, conflict, and poverty, it is paramount to understand humanity itself—that is, to deeply explore the vast repository of human cultural activities throughout time. The Faculty of Culture and Information Science invests deeply into considerations of the wants and needs of humankind throughout history, both past and present. We investigate what makes people happy, what causes them to act, and in what kind of situations, with the aim of creating businesses that bring true well-being to the people of the world, and developing synthesized knowledge* that contributes to the realization of a sustainable society.
*Synthesized knowledge involves the creation of new cultural value through the integration of all kinds of human knowledge, including the humanities, sociology, and the natural sciences. The necessity for synthesized knowledge as a source of innovation in modern society has also been stipulated by the Cabinet Office.
