schMOOze U. is a small, friendly college known for its hospitality and the diversity of the student population. It was established in July, 1994 as a place where people studying English as a second or foreign language could practice English while sharing ideas and experiences with other learners and practicers of English. Students have opportunities for one-on-one and group conversations as well as access to language games, an on-line dictionary, USENET feed, and gopher access.

Although schMOOze U. was founded with the ESL/EFL students in mind, it welcomes all people interested in cross-cultural communication.

Vocaltet Multimedia Communication over the Internet
The purpose of this message is to propose an experiment.
The experiment consist on downloading an iPhone package and trying it
for the next two weeks. I know that many of you have been working with
Cu-SeeMe and that is fine, but I found a iPhone package that is much
more elegant than Cu-See-Me and, IMHO< has tremendous capabilities for
the learning of foreign languages.

I have established a private chat room on the Internet Phone server. It
is named "Language Learning & Technology".

Now, you may download a testing version of the iPhone from
http://www.vocaltec.com
download the Internet Phone w/video version 4.5 or order it from your
bookstore computer area. It is only $45.

This package contains voice, whiteboard, chat board and a window which
shows a list of all active users, the type of iPhone software they are
using, the country of origen, etc.

I will be on line every night from 8-11 pm (EST) my nick name is
LIBERAL.

The Internet Phone with Video is available for the PC.
The Mac version is limited to voice and does not have chatboard,
whiteboard or video.

A prof.Roberts at Illinois is experimenting with the Internet Phone to
help his Spanish students to practice with native speaker. It is an idea
that has great potential.

OK! That is it. Lets get together and play with it.

Many regards, Victor

##World Wide Web Course Tools
A computer scientist at British Columbia has designed a set of software tools called WebCT (for Web Course Tools) that allows instructors to design online courses, create their own Web sites, hold interactive and bulletin-board-type discussions, and administer exams, all on the Internet. Professors simply enter their own material into pre-prepared forms, and the virtual classroom takes shape. WebCT is already being used in more than 70 courses at the University of British Columbia, and the program is available for testing to faculty members outside the university. Once testing is completed, the program's authors plan to charge a fee for its use. (Chronicle of Higher Education 24 Jan 97 A23) SOURCE: Edupage
