The following journals are very useful for the specified areas. We have compiled this list based on our own experience and on recommendations from colleagues in the fields. If you are interested in these fields, it is worth considering subscribing to them or looking for them in your university library.

1. Linguistics

LLBA
Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts is a valuable resource for getting information on the latest developments in the field of linguistics and its various sub-disciplines. It provides abstracts of articles from approximately 2,000 serials published around the world, plus recent books, occasional papers, monographs, technical reports, dissertation listings from Dissertation Abstracts International, and bibliographic citations for book reviews that appear in journals. Over 29 substantive areas of interest, including 77 subject categories, are covered by LLBA.

LLBA is available in book form and on CD-ROM. The book form is available at Lancaster University, and CD-ROM is available at Liverpool University Library, which is closest to Lancaster.

You need to be a member of TESOL (Teachers of English for Speakers of Other Languages), which is the largest professional English language teaching organization in the world, to subscribe to these periodicals. When you join TESOL, you can specify which journal you want, either by air or surface mail. You can receive newsletters of the interest groups you join. TESOL's annual conference is held in March, and more than 8,000 people attend it from all over the world.

IATEFL Newsletter
You need to be a member of IATEFL (International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language), which is the second largest professional organisation for English language teachers in the world. It is based in UK. You can join its interest groups and receive their newsletters. If you join this organisation, you can subscribe some journals at discounted rates.
IATEFL annual conference is held in the Easter break, and more than 500 people attend.

Useful Regional Journals

ELT News & Views is a newsletter for teachers of English in southern South America. Published in March, June and September of each year it aims to provide teachers of English in the area with news, information and informed articles that will be useful to them professionally. Launched in Argentina in 1994 it now also reaches subscribers in Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay, commenting on ELT-related events and activities in these countries.

Sections include: local and regional news, calendar of ELT events, book reviews, conference calls and reports, practical teaching activities and articles on language, methodology and educational issues.
