Sakiji and Sahoji ²‹I˜H‚Ʋ•Û˜H |
| |
The hill located on the north end of Nara Basin is called Hirayama. The east side of the south side of this hill is called Sahoyama and the west side is called Sakiyama. Sahoji is a road (first street on the south of Heijokyo) from Tegaimon Gate of Todaiji to Hokkeji Temple. Sakiji is the road beyond to the west through Hejokyushi, Saidaiji Temple and Akishinodera Temple. There are many temples, shrines, tombs and historical sites along these roads. It is quite interesting to walk along these roads and visit those historical places. Sahoji has one obvious road, but Sakiji does not, and you can choose any road to go around and visit those places. There is also rekishino michi (History Path) on the north of these roads, and that is a quieter and more pleasant route for a walk or cycling. |
